CPI has installed a Canon Océ ColorStream 6700 Chroma roll-to-roll inkjet press to streamline production and increase capacity. The installation in September 2018 was to enable CPI to meet increasing demand for print-on-demand and to support operational expansion.
‘Canon has impressed us with its reliable and efficient technologies, and outstanding service,’ explained CPI Antony Rowe’s divisional general manager, Martin Collyer. ‘ Since implementing Océ VarioPrint 6000 system, we have increased our ability to produce high volumes of books in short timescales and remain agile in a constantly evolving market. So, Canon was the obvious choice when it came to exploring new ways of shortening the inventory cycle and bolstering capacity.
‘The ColorStream 6700 has enabled us to adapt to the growing industry-wide shift towards print-on-demand – transferring 1.5 million more books to the inkjet platform – without incurring high costs for additional print units and managing complex operations. Integrating perfectly with the existing cut sheet systems, it has also allowed us to maintain flexibility for our customers by providing monochrome printing work while boosting colour production capacity.’
The new press will allow CPI to to transfer existing monochrome work to colour production as well as offering improved colour fidelity, a wider gamut, and higher optical densities. It also offers sustainability benefits, with little paper waste and low energy consumption
‘We are delighted to continue our relationship with such a well-respected and established industry player,’ added Stuart Rising, Canon UK’s head of commercial print and production. ‘CPI is a major force in print and its dedication to minimal paper wastage and maximum efficiency ties in perfectly with our own core values.’
